Program description: 

This course is intended for clinicians looking to enhance or refresh their knowledge of trauma-informed approach and best practices when working with adults with PTSD. This workshop will explore the impact of trauma and various elements that can hinder or help facilitate healing and recovery. Areas explored will include the role of the therapeutic relationship, clinician competence areas, boundaries and attachment, screening tools, safety and treatment planning, psychoeducation, and various “Bottom-up” and “Top-Down” trauma-informed clinical strategies that support healing and resilience. Considerations for complex trauma and Complex PTSD will be explored at the end of the workshop along with a review of the main components of “Gold Standard” Treatments for PTSD.

Learning Objectives: 

  • Participants will learn to identify and assess trauma related symptoms
  • Participants will conceptualize therapeutic needs and phases of recovery
  • Participants will enhance understanding of trauma-informed clinical strategies to facilitate safety and stabilization in trauma survivors.
  • Participants will familiarize themselves with the “Gold Standard” Treatments for Trauma and PTSD including each treatment's key components.


Instructor Bio: 

Angela L. Belleville, a licensed mental health counselor (LMHC), is alumni of Northeastern University and the owner of Bella Health which offers an array of gold standard evidence-based PTSD treatments as well as supervision, consultation and training services for providers and the community. Ms. Belleville has over two decades of rich and wide-ranging experience in behavioral health which has included inpatient psychiatric trauma care, DBT day treatment, clinical consulting, community-based wraparound supervision and management, program development, community fundraising for domestic violence awareness and extensive time as a trainer for academic institutions like Boston College and University and Albany SUNY, the police, corporate wellness and more.

In addition to her extensive experience as a trainer and consultant Ms Belleville is a provider-status Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) clinician, certified in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), train-the-trainer status in CBT for PTSD, and proficient in Prolonged Exposure (PE), Written Exposure Therapy and other forms of trauma treatment.
