Mental health providers are on the frontlines of our current social and economic crisis. We witness, on a daily basis, the economic, racial, and cultural oppression our clients are experiencing. Yet clinicians are often at a loss as to how to explore and discuss the effects of socio-economic problems with the individuals and families with whom they work. This workshop will introduce mental health providers to the liberation health model; a social justice focused framework of mental health practice which integrates analysis of cultural and social forces with traditional clinical methods. Following an overview of liberation health theory, participants will engage in a series of experiential exercises which will demonstrate the application of this model to practice, consultation, and supervision.
