Short Bio or Description of your Practice (Optional)
I have over 30 years combined experience working as a social worker and educator.
As a social worker I have worked in a number of different settings including nursing home, continuing treatment programs for the elderly; outpatient mental health and community services.
I offer a family systems based approach, including CBT, and short term goal oriented therapy. I work with adult individuals, couples and groups; with an emphasis on bicultural couples, as well as men's issues including groups for men.
My approach is gentle and caring without being enabling. My practice is informed by having grown up in a multicultural home (Swiss Italian), learning and speaking several languages, and having lived in several different countries in the Middle East, North Africa and Europe.
I came to United States as a foreign student in 1977. This upbringing has informed and driven my life and work and has resulted in a strong interest and sensitivity to intercultural and multicultural issues and their relevance to therapy as well as our day to day interactions in the world.
My interests are multifaceted and interdisciplinary. In addition to my social work degree, I hold an undergraduate degree in Anthropology as well as a Ph.D. in French cultural studies. I wrote my doctoral dissertation on the topic of intercultural awareness as it related to the mid nineteenth century representation of the Algerian native by Swiss colonists.
